š Let AI date for you
Bumble is looking to introduce "AI dating concierges".
TLDR; AI ādating conciergesā is Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herdās latest vision for how dating will look in our near future. While the tech and idea is impressive, it also poses the question of just because we can, should we?
š The what and the why
Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble, has envisioned a future where an AI "dating concierge" manages the initial interactions of the online dating process.
The idea behind this AI implementation is to streamline an often repetive process of āgetting-to-know-each-otherā questions. This will supposedly free up time and reduce the risk of dating fatigue.
Practically, AI dating would look something like this:
Train the model: User creates their Bumble account and gives instructions and context to the AI. In a way ātrainingā a model to understand what you would say in a real dating conversation.
Let it do the work: Set your AI dating concierge free as it matches, and converse with other userās AI concierges.
Your AI decides for you: After some conversation your AI decides based on the other userās AI if the two are a potential match and you take over the conversation from there.

š The implications for you
AI dating concierges may feel like something out of a science fiction novel but is very likely to be implemented in the Bumble experience in just the next couple of months.
Dating fatigue is a real problem among people actively dating. Swiping, conversing, and setting up dates can get tedius. And this AI implementation will remove all those steps for you.
This saves you hours of repetitive getting-to-know-you conversations. However it also removes you from the human experience.
The nuances of how emojis are used, how sentences are structures, how quickly the other responds, and so much more. These are all things your AI dating concierge will decide on for you.
Maybe itās for the best, letting you focus on living your life and only spend time dating when the person has some potential.
The implications are impossible to predict, but one thing is true ā you will save time, but also be further removed from the reality and human connection of dating another person.
š„ Our take on it
While the technology and implementation is an exciting idea, we believe it will remove humans from the struggle, excitement, and ārealnessā of getting to know another human being.
Sometimes the question of ājust because we can, should we?ā needs to be raised. Dating, to us, is one of those things that should remain manual, un-automated, and human.
Further, Bumble implementing AI is also part of a larger trend of companies implementing AI simply for the sake of it.
AI is the latest buzzword, investors love it, and stock prices lately often depends on it. So to implement it is a no-brainer for most founders.
And this remains the case for Bumble CEO Whitney Wolf Herd.
