🤯 AI goes 3-dimensional
Creators can now create 3D objects in seconds.
⚡️ Quick breakdown:
Announced on: 16th of April.
What?: New product announcement allows for AI 3D generation using text and images as input.
Who?: Spline.com
👉 The what and the why
Spline is a 3D design tool often referred to as the industry standard for 3D web graphics.
Being available since 2020 and already having caught a respectable part of the market share and native integrations with platforms like Webflow it’s fair to say they’re making waves.
On the 16th of April they announced the arrival of a new feature they call Spline AI Generation. This feature allows anyone, regardless of skill level, to create complex 3D renders based on a text or image input in just minutes.
👉 The implications for you
If you’re a web developer/designer, marketing professional, or running a one-person business this will likely be a massive unlock for you.
Creating 3d graphics is often expensive both in time and money, and this update will not only speed things up in production but also allow non-technical people to produce mind-blowing results.
🔥 Our take on it
As someone creating websites for a living I (Jonathan) see massive potential in this update.
Spline is one of those tools that I know has great potential but I’ve always put it on the sidelines for one simple reason; complexity / barrier to entry. Both of these are solved with this new generative AI functionality.
What previously seemed like a stretch to achieve now seems just within reach, and I am already looking for ways to implement this new product offering into my web studio’s future work.
One concern, however, is whether or not the AI model backing this functionality was trained on licensed data or not. As brought up by Twitter/X user Catghost it often turns out platform use user data to train their models.
But if Spline’s own claim is true, that is not the case this time.
